ARISEIMAGES for Prayer, Reflection or Meditation

ARISEIMAGES, Etsy Shop

What is ARISE IMAGES? A sanctuary for visual prayer, quiet contemplation, and intentional living. We create original, deeply reflective fine-art photography and guided prayer cards designed to anchor your daily meditation, morning quiet time, or sacred altar spaces. We are so honored to introduce our signature Sacred Reflection Collection, available across six distinct life themes: Come in Close, Curiosity, Relationships, Reminisce, Seasons, and Wide Open Spaces.

This has been a labor of courage and love to offer my photography. Here’s a portion of my story:

I combine my love of evocative photography with contemplative reflection.

Photography is something I learned as a teen and picked up alongside my father. I have been photographing nature and landscapes, up close or macro images, and whatever catches my gaze for over 30 years. In the last 6 years, I was introduced to contemplative practices which combine prayer, reflection, and evocative images. I have experienced how visuals help heal and guide my prayers.

I decided to create, curate, and practice using my photography for contemplation. As a spiritual director and photographer, I offer images as a way of reflection to clients and companions whether in a spiritual direction session, on retreat or in their own home space.

Compassion by Henri Nouwen, Donald McNeill, Douglas Morrison

A book worth rereading! A Reflection on the Christian Life unveils what it truly means to be a compassionate person. This can only be through the image bearing reflection of God, Himself, Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit. The thread of solidarity is standing out for me in this second read. Some beautiful and thought provoking quotes are keeping a slow listening pace into each page, paragraph, and sentence.

Here are a few quotes from today still lingering within:

“Breaking of the bread becomes an expression of solidarity with all who suffer, whether they be nearby or for away.”

“To pray is to enter into a deep inner solidarity with our fellow human beings so that in and through us they can be touched by the healing power of God’s Spirit.”

“The compassionate life could be described as a life patiently lived with others.”

As I envision creating a retreat experience with bread baking, I wanted to share my inspiration. The reading of Brother Juniper’s Bread Book first made it’s way into my lap after a used bookstore stop in my hometown in California. Years back, I began making bread from scratch and found the process centered around “waiting” and learning to be patient. As I began reading Brother Juniper’s pages they took me back to when I would let my bread dough rise in a warmed dryer or next to a lit fireplace in our living room. Now I have learned that in high altitude, how wonderful a dutch oven is for bread rising and baking. While intrigued by bread baking again, I was gifted the book Bake & Pray by founder of the Edible Theology Project, Kendall Vanderslice and have enjoyed gleaning and practicing bread-making with Breath Prayer. Her detailed descriptions intertwined with liturgy and spiritual practice has been a gift of joy and pleasure while being in the kitchen— a different space to pray.

“Bread is at once incredibly simple and infinitely complex…This simultaneous simplicity and complexity is, in many ways, much like the life of faith.” —Kendall Vanderslice

Interested in expanding your prayer life and bread making, I highly recommend picking up these two books.
